Recurrent Disease Biopsy

& Fiducial Placement

Axumin PET Scan

Axumin (fluciclovine F18) is utilized for PET imaging in men with possible recurrent prostate cancer based on rising or elevated PSA.

Positive Axumin scans may demonstrate a site of focal increased activity, suggestive of recurrent prostate cancer.  Correlation with dedicated pelvic/prostate MRI is advised for correlation and required for fusion purposes if biopsy and fiducial marker placement is desired.

Due to the high likelihood of recurrent disease in the prostatic resection bed, deep within the pelvis, or within a pelvic lymph node, standard CT-guided percutaneous biopsy may be prohibited due to intervening bowel, blood vessels or bone.

MRI/US fused transperineal technology offers an alternative biopsy and fiducial placement technique, allowing increased accessibility to traditionally difficult to target pelvic lesions.

Dr. Wolf offers biopsy of and fiducial marker placement

in recurrent pelvic disease prior to radiation therapy.
